About this piece
Five short pieces for solo cello, subtitled "cinq études de mouvement", written for Radio France's "Alla breve" broadcast (five two-minute sequences) and premiered on air by the dedicatee, Emmanuelle Bertrand, on 28 February 2003. Each piece is titled after a line by the poet Pierre Reverdy, from "Le soleil à la main" to "La main tient la nuit par un fil". In her note the composer describes the writing as both violent and fleeting, its unpredictable gestures likened to the wind.
