A piece for cello and pre-recorded tape, completed in January 1993 and published by United Music Publishers, which sells the score and the tape (on CD). The tape layers a choir, a continuous drone, recorded extracts that the score cues as 'Bach', and closing bells, and the cello part is laid out in timed sections rather than regular bars. Short motifs are separated by 'tense silences', with the direction 'very harsh and violent throughout', and the cellist uses pizzicato, ricochet, sul ponticello, 'dead' sounds from lightened left-hand pressure, repeated figures timed against the tape and ever-widening glissandi before a long, very quiet final note.
