About this piece

Recordant ("Remembering") is an eight-minute fantasia for cello and piano by the Spanish pianist-composer Consuelo Colomer, dedicated to her children Antonio and Diane Cortés. The cello sings long, flowing phrases over a busy piano part, in a tonal, Romantic style. The publisher describes it as simple, intimate music, written as a dialogue between two instruments the composer loved.

Technical overview

In the opening pages, the cellist plays long, slurred melodic phrases, mostly in eighth and quarter notes within first-position range, in a four-flat key with some accidentals and a ritardando, after a six-bar piano introduction.
