About this piece
A four-minute piece for unaccompanied cello from 1995 that reworks the tango through contemporary cello techniques: left-hand pizzicato and taps on the fingerboard, glissandi up to harmonics, sul ponticello, and quick switches between arco and pizzicato over a 3+3+2 tango rhythm. Darrett Adkins played it in 1997 on a program by the Spokane ensemble Zephyr, and it has since been recorded by Carter Dewberry (2009) and Adkins (2013). It suits a recital or contemporary-music program; a Spokesman-Review critic quoted by the publisher called it a "compendium of nearly every sound a cellist can extract from the instrument."
