About this piece
A 23-minute concerto for cello and chamber orchestra (single winds, horn, trumpet, trombone, percussion, piano, harp and strings, which may be one per part), written for and commissioned by cellist Maria Isabel Edlund. Its title comes from a surrealist painting by Pablo Picasso, and according to Dacapo the music grew from Edlund's playing and her relationship with Bach. Edlund gave the first performance with Athelas Sinfonietta Copenhagen under Eirik Haukaas Ødegaard on 17 October 2021, and they recorded it for Dacapo's 2023 album Letter in April.
