About this piece
'Tanya' Poems is a set of pieces for unaccompanied cello, written in 1998 for and commissioned by the cellist Tanya Remenikova, who premiered it at Ted Mann Hall, Minneapolis, in February 2000 and recorded it on Albany Records' Pure Colors (TROY785). Its movements are named after verse forms. MusicWeb International notes that 'Couplet' pairs long held notes with triple-stop chords, and that 'Sestina' is in six sections, technically demanding, with a light-hearted ending. The composer's catalogue now lists a third movement, 'Envoi'.
