About this piece
One-movement concert work (Moderato, about 12 minutes) for cello and bayan (accordion), with organ as an alternative, written in spring 1993 for and dedicated to cellist Karine Georgian and accordionist Elsbeth Moser, who premiered it in Dresden's Dreikönigskirche on 2 October 1994. In her note quoted by the Free-Reed Review, Firsova says the piece follows the outlines of sonata form and that the title has "no direct religious meaning" but concerns a person entering a hard period of life. The cello carries the lyrical solo line over a largely accompanying accordion part.
