About this piece
A cello concerto for soloist and chamber orchestra of flute, oboe, English horn, bassoon, sitar and strings, dedicated by Mourey to her son Francis. The first movement, 'De Vent et de Lumière', opens with a quasi-cadenza for the soloist before the orchestra enters with dance-like ('chorégraphique') pizzicato writing; the second, 'D'Ether et de Lumière', is a Molto adagio with a long singing cello line. The inclusion of a sitar gives the orchestral colour an unusual flavour.
