About this piece
A work for eight cellos and narrator setting María Baranda's poetry collection Dylan y las ballenas, poems addressed to the Welsh poet Dylan Thomas, commissioned by the Octeto Ibérico de Violonchelos. It was premiered on 26 October 2007 in the Sala Manuel M. Ponce in Mexico City by the octet under Elías Arizcuren, with the poet herself as narrator. The roughly 15-minute score is in five movements, with the spoken Spanish text placed between and over the cello writing, which ranges from hushed sul ponticello tremolos and harmonics to dense chords and fast harmonic runs.
