About this piece
A piece for singing cellist and piano, written for cellist and vocalist Juliet Wolff's project Voices Within, which commissions works for singing cellist by women composers. It takes its title from Rilke's poem 'I live my life in widening circles' (The Book of Hours) and is built from circling motifs that grow, recede and return. The cellist sings sustained tones while playing, so the part calls for a performer comfortable using her or his own voice alongside the instrument.
