About this piece
A five-minute, single-movement piece for unaccompanied cello. Its title plays on several meanings of 'dance': the composer's note cites Leonard Cohen's 'Dance Me to the End of Time' and a Josephine Baker quotation about dying at the end of a dance, and the piece was written for a Composers Concordance concert built around Lucia Dlugoszewski's 'Radical Other'. Repeated pizzicatos on a single pitch act as an invitation to the dance; the music speeds up to its fastest point, then slows with hints of a waltz before dying away. Kate Dillingham gave the premiere in 2022.
