About this piece
A five-movement sonata for unaccompanied cello (Opening, Serenade, Moto Perpetuo, Sarabande, Closing), completed in July 2023 and dedicated to Gregory Hamilton and Michael Duggan, the composer's first two cello teachers. The first movement works like an overture, presenting the material that the three more traditionally shaped middle movements and the through-composed finale recall. The score is marked 'after Ng Yu Hng and Egon Wellesz', whose solo cello sonatas Bromberg was performing at the time.
