About this piece
A tone poem for cello orchestra with five-string electric bass and percussion, commissioned by the London Cello Society and premiered under the composer's direction at the Royal Academy of Music in London. The cellos are divided into six sections plus a "celtar" section whose players strum their instruments like guitars, and the publisher pitches it at gatherings of anywhere from 7 to 100 or more cellists. Minsky describes it as a celebration of great cellists of the past that pairs a Brahmsian sound with progressive-rock conventions; he later conducted it with 70 cellists in Melbourne and with the Yorkshire Cellos.
