About this piece
A concerto for cello and string orchestra (percussion and piano optional) built from songs Minsky wrote in his youth: the first two movements come from songs he composed on guitar at about 15, and the finale from a cello-rock song from his twenties. The second movement is played "celtar" style, with the cello held and played like a guitar. The publisher calls it moderately difficult and says it was written for enjoyment and ensemble balance rather than display; the composer premiered it with New Zealand's Taranaki Youth Orchestra. It lasts about 17 minutes, and a version for cello and piano (bass and percussion optional) is also published.
