About this piece

Fiddle Suite (2011-12) is a three-movement work for cello and piano, about 15-16 minutes long, commissioned by the cellist and composer Jeremy Crosmer for his final DMA recital at the University of Michigan; Crosmer also plays Arkansas-style fiddle. The movements, Reel, Dirge and Jig, borrow from fiddling traditions of several cultures, combining Baroque dance forms with Irish and bluegrass techniques and rhythmic devices from South Indian music. Crosmer and the composer premiered the Reel and Jig in October 2011 and the complete suite in March 2012 in Ann Arbor; their recording of all three movements is on the composer's SoundCloud.
