About this piece
Präludium is a five-minute piece for unaccompanied cello, written for a farewell concert for Christoph Bruggisser, director of the Musikschule Zug, on his last day in office. The concert's theme was J.S. Bach, and the piece hides the B-A-C-H motif in its melodies, short motifs and harmonies. Jonas Iten gave the premiere in Zug on 29 October 2014. The writing alternates a slow, rubato chordal opening with an agitated middle section of fast double stops, and often has the cellist combining plucked and bowed notes within the same chord or passage.
