Shadow Lines is a ten-minute work for cello, pre-recorded cello and electronics, commissioned by VisionIntoArt for Jeffrey Zeigler, former cellist of the Kronos Quartet, who premiered and recorded it. The composer describes it as a musical picture of 'double vision': delay effects, live looping and a pre-recorded cello track (some loops up to 20 bars long) layer the cello's lines into the sound of a second instrument. Its three sections focus in turn on the cello's lyrical, rhythmic/percussive and harmonic sides. Performers need a playback and live-looping setup; the composer supplies the full performance materials on request.
