About this piece
Two short early pieces, Le Soir in F major and Légende in D minor, written in 1894–95 and published by Leduc in 1896 as Deux pièces pour alto (ou violoncelle) et piano, with a dedication to Victor Balbreck. Le Soir is a lyrical evening piece of about four minutes and Légende a shorter dramatic one. Cellists have recorded both, including Camille Seghers on her 2022 album of Vierne's complete works for cello and piano. IMSLP has the Leduc score and the viola part, but no separate cello part.
