About this piece

A programmatic piece about the kappa, a river creature from Japanese folklore that is chased away by bowing to it. The solo part depicts its 'slips and drips, plops and hops' over a running-river piano part, and two Japanese pentatonic scales loosely form the harmonic basis. It was commissioned for 7 City Strings studio in Queen Creek, Arizona, and is on the Texas UIL Prescribed Music List.
