About this piece
Euba's Dance is a five-minute work for solo cello driven by an incessant ostinato, with constantly changing textures. Okoye named it in tribute to the Nigerian composer and scholar Akin Euba, who coined the term 'African pianism' for African composers' percussive use of the piano. Matt Haimovitz gave the premiere and recorded it on PRIMAVERA I: the wind (Pentatone, 2021).
