About this piece

Schumann wrote Album für die Jugend, Op. 68, in 1848 as teaching pieces for his daughters. No. 10, 'Fröhlicher Landmann, von der Arbeit zurückkehrend' (The Happy Farmer, returning from work), is a cheerful march-like tune in the bass under off-beat chords. In the Suzuki Cello School it is the last new piece of Volume 1 before the Bach minuets, and the RCM lists it at Grade 1. It is a short, well-known melody by a composer whose documented hand injury and illness are already part of the Disabled & Neurodivergent tab.
