About this piece

A cello-and-piano arrangement by Samuel Araya of a tune from Mathilde Bilbro's 1914 piano method Bilbro's Very First Piano Lessons, written for beginners aged five to nine. The cello plays the simple waltz melody while the piano supplies an oom-pah-pah accompaniment. Bilbro was an Alabama teacher whose children's pieces were widely used in the early twentieth century.

A slow waltz in C major and 3/4 using only first-position notes from C to G on the G and D strings, in half, quarter and dotted-half notes. There are no slurs or shifts, so the focus is a steady three-beat pulse and even separate bows.
