About this piece

Samuel Araya's 2021 cello-and-piano arrangement of 'Gottes Segen', the first of Le Beau's Drei Lieder, Op. 14 (Berlin: Fürstner, c.1887). The cello takes the hymn-like vocal line over the song's repeated-chord accompaniment. It gives younger students a way to play Le Beau, whose catalogue entries otherwise start at the 4 Stücke, Op. 24 and the Cello Sonata.

Technical overview

A slow song melody ('Mässig bewegt') in F major and 4/4, written in bass clef. The line reaches F above middle C, so students shift to 3rd position, and it uses dotted-quarter and dotted-half rhythms with crescendo and diminuendo hairpins over a steady repeated-chord piano part.
