About this piece

A 2025 collection of short pieces by Agnieszka Kaszuba, a Polish cello teacher, for cello and piano, with some pieces written as duets for two cellos. In her note she explains that most of the pieces come from her first collection, My Cello, and that "the selection was prepared with beginner cellists in mind"[1]. The pieces have picture titles such as March, Merry-go-round and Pursuit. In the duets the two cello parts are written at different levels, so a teacher and pupil, or two pupils at different stages, can play together. Titles and notes are in Polish and English.

Technical overview

March (two cellos, D major) pairs a part with portato crotchets, 3-note slurs and hairpins from p to ff with a part built on open strings and simple first-position notes. Pursuit (with piano, G major) and Merry-go-round (two cellos) are quick Vivo pieces in running semiquavers with chromatic notes and short slurs, mostly in first position, though one part of Merry-go-round climbs to fourth position.
