About this piece
A book of 18 short character pieces for young cellists and piano by the Olsztyn violin teacher Dorota Obijalska and Marcin Wawruk, adapted for cello by Radosław Bukała from their violin book Skrzypiące nutki. The pieces have picture titles such as a pony ride, dancing snowflakes, a steam train, a moose and two ragtimes, with bilingual Polish and English titles. They work well as recital pieces for students who have started moving out of first position.
Technical overview
Mostly D and G major with bright 2/4 and 4/4 pieces in steady eighths and some sixteenths. Open-string bariolage patterns climb from first position up to F sharp and A above the A string, so shifting is needed. Slurs are short, there is on-string staccato in the quicker pieces, and the piano part is supportive.
