About this piece

A broad, hymn-like Andante religioso that builds to an impassioned climax and fades away. Boosey published it in 1909 for cello or violin, and it was popular enough to be arranged for orchestra.

Technical overview

Andante religioso in 4/4, C major. Much of the line sits in treble clef, with glissandos, trills and portamento shifts. A passage in double stops (sixths and thirds) leads into the climax.
