About this piece

Squire's fast, fiery tarantella in D minor is one of his best-loved pieces for students. It appears in Suzuki Cello School Volume 6 and has been set for ABRSM Grade 7. C. Harvey Publications also publishes a practice edition with preparatory exercises.

Technical overview

Allegro con spirito in 6/8, D minor, with a legato middle section in D major. It stays in bass clef but climbs high on the A string. Long runs of slurred eighth notes are kept on one string where marked, with staccato and hooked bowings and quick string crossings, and the Presto coda ends on loud chords.
