About this piece
A concerto for cello and string orchestra in four movements, Winter, Spring, Summer and Autumn, that pass from one season to the next almost imperceptibly [1][2]. It was written for cellist Mindaugas Bačkus, who premiered it with the Klaipėda Chamber Orchestra at the Permainų muzika festival in Klaipėda, Lithuania, in September 2019 [1]. The title is Finnish for "soul-landscape", and Martinaitytė links it to her own sense of home: "My physical home keeps changing and the only thing that remains is music" [3]. Rokas Vaitkevičius and the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra recorded it on the album Ex tenebris lux.
