About this piece

Hägg's Albumblad in E minor survives in four autograph versions that differ mainly in phrasing. One is inscribed 'Til Erik Westberg', the composer, cellist, conductor and later director of the Swedish performing rights society STIM, and another adds an alternative violin line. A four-bar Moderato in unison with the piano ends on a pause and leads into a repeated Allegretto of slurred sixteenth-note figures; the second half opens with a long trill on low B and a plucked arpeggio before the tune returns.

Technical overview

E minor, 2/4: a short Moderato, then an Allegretto in two repeated halves. Slurred groups of sixteenths and eighths up to the E above middle C, one brief treble clef passage reaching the B above it, long trills on the low B and low E, and a pizzicato arpeggio.
